Our Story

A Family's

Wild Idea

In 2013, Hilary and Nicholas Sadron moved back to Kenya to raise their two children. Sharing a lifelong love of the outdoors, they wanted their family to experience the freedom, adventure, and connection to nature that Kenya offers. Over the years, that passion led them to Samburu, where they found not only a remarkable landscape, but also a welcoming community that would ultimately inspire their vision.

Loitana Wild is still very much a work in progress. It is not perfect, and it comes with its challenges, but that is precisely what makes it so wonderful. Since taking on the lodge the family has built a pool, re-thatched the roofs, redone the bathrooms, fixed the water and solar and decorated the lodge to get us to operational standards. There is still more decorating and enhancements to be done.

With imperfection comes charm. It is a truly special place with its landscape, wildlife and the people who call it home. The Samburu have maintained a pastoral way of life that is deeply connected to the land, their traditions, and the wildlife that surrounds them. Many of these customs and beliefs can initially feel foreign, but as time passes and one comes to understand their meaning and significance, appreciation for the Samburu's way of life often grows.

The Samburu are among the people most closely connected to this landscape. Their knowledge of wildlife, their respect for nature, and their strong sense of community are woven into everyday life. Families and friends who visit Loitana Wild often feel privileged to have been welcomed into this traditional world and fortunate to experience part of the journey.

The hope is that those who visit Loitana Wild will leave with a deeper appreciation not only for the wilderness, but also for the people and culture that help make this place so remarkable. The team look forward to sharing that experience and hope that when friends come they will slow down, connect and be part of the story that is Loitana Wild.

"A place to slow down, connect, and be part of the story."
